The Salem CommUNITY Quilt Project

Craftivism

Or the art of gentle protest.

"Craftivism is a form of activism, typically incorporating elements of anti-capitalism, environmentalism, solidarity, or third-wave feminism, that is centered on practices of craft - or what has traditionally be referred to as 'domestic arts.'" Wikipedia

The Salem CommUNITY Quilt has its roots in craftivism. We aim to showcase and once again engage in the strong collaborative environment that makes Salem unique. We have a diverse student body from so many different walks of life, and distinct groups between the Academy, College, Fleer, and Graduate populations. However, that has never stopped students from working together in the classroom and on campus for a common goal.
