Library Instruction & Liaison Support: Home

As part of Salem Library’s mission to create personalized learning experiences, the Personal Librarians provide research and learning support for faculty and their courses both in-person and online through the LMS. This support is designed to address your students’ immediate information needs while also helping them develop fluency in information literacy. To request research and learning support, please contact your liaison librarian.

Library Instruction

Face-to-Face Learning

Your Personal Librarian can design a self-contained One-Shot session that provides a high-level overview of specific information literacy topics or an ongoing Semester Partnership that offers a more comprehensive research experience. Topics can include:

  • Selecting a research topic
  • Locating journal articles in databases
  • Evaluating sources
  • Copyright, plagiarism, and fair use
  • Assistance with an assignment deliverable

Online Learning

Your Personal Librarian can embed College Research I modules into your course’s LMS page. These modules encourage your first year students to build their information literacy skills at their own pace. You can select to include up to 6 research-focused modules which will take about an hour each per week to complete and can be automatically graded. Topics include:

  • Types of sources
  • Internet basics
  • Website evaluation
  • The research process
  • The importance of citation
  • Research questions and arguments
