Emma Augusta Lehman attended Salem Female Academy from 1855-1857. She joined the faculty at SFA in 1864, and taught for fifty-two years. While English literature was her profession, she also taught piano, art, astronomy, and botany. |

Scope and Content |
Lehman's personal herbarium, correspondence, scrapbooks, and history and literature notes related to her teaching. The strengths of her collection is the herbarium and her writings on the history of Salem College and the Salem community, Other items of interest include a series of plant drawings by her,notes about numerous historical figures, a list of words she credits World War I for inspiring, samples of the plant Monotropsis lehmanii, travel journals to Europe, and handwritten drafts of her published poems. |
