The preferred style guide for history research papers and reports depends upon the type of research being conducted and the preference of the professor. While experimental, or qualitative, research tends to be reported using APA, most other research (historical, descriptive, etc) will use the Chicago Manual of Style, Turabian, or MLA for citations within papers and reports. The History department asks that students use the Chicago Manual of Style for citations. To be on the safe side, IF YOUR PROFESSOR DOES NOT SPECIFY WHICH STYLE TO USE, ASK!
